Members of the Lac Mac libraries will be able to borrow articles from Monday, September 27, despite the closing of the doors, thanks to the implementation of a click and collect service.
Arts, Culture and Tourism Director Jacqui Hemsley said customers can reserve books, DVDs and other items online or through the new Lake Mac Libraries app and then pick up their order at at designated times and locations.
“Our staff will process orders, consolidate items, in a take-out-style service designed to maintain social distancing and prevent people from congregating,” Ms. Hemsley said.
“With so many people at home, there is a thirst for books and other materials to entertain, educate and enrich children and adults – we’re here to help. “
Initially, pickups can be booked between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at Lake Mac Libraries branches in Charlestown, Toronto, Belmont, Cardiff, and Speers Point, and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in Morisset, Edgeworth, Windale , Wangi and Swansea.
Strict measures will be in place at each location to maintain social distancing and reduce the spread of COVID-19, and all borrowers will be given advance instructions regarding pickup.
“We will continuously monitor the service to ensure that it is managed in a safe, efficient manner and in accordance with government health recommendations,” said Ms Hemsley.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said libraries introduced extended delivery service in 2020, making borrowing easier in a COVIDsafe manner.
“Council staff delivered over 20,000 items to 2,000 homes during last year’s lockdown, and it’s great to see the Council offering a similar library service again – this time click and collect, consistent with the most recent changes for libraries under the Public Health Order, ”said Cr Fraser.
“These are small but important steps to make sure we get through this difficult time together.
“We will do what we can to help, and I encourage everyone to do the same in the coming weeks as we consider reopening more Council facilities in line with the New Brunswick government’s roadmap. South Wales. “
All click and collect articles will have a six week loan period.
