VIJAYAWADA: A 60-year-old businessman from Machilipatnam along with his wife and two daughters attempted suicide in a hotel below the boundaries of Krishna Lanka Police Station in Vijayawada on Sunday evening.
The police averted tragedy and the family was transferred to GGH for treatment. The businessman was identified as Jupudi Venkateswara Rao (60) and ran a black gram wholesale business in Machilipatnam.

According to Krishna Lanka circle inspector P Satyanandam, the incident happened around 11pm on Sunday and Dial 100 staff received a phone call from someone (Rao’s brother-in-law) stating that Rao texted him before taking extreme action. , and asked the police to rescue his brother-in-law.
